Taking Care of Your Polished Concrete's Quality

By Mikkan Drane

So finally you have that polished look you have always wanted for your floor. What is next now is to maintain it. Keeping your concrete polished floor looking new isn't so hard. There are very simple steps in maintaining the quality of this type of floor which is needed to guarantee its longevity.

Making sure that a sealer is used over the cracks and gaps of the polished floor is the first step in improving the quality of the floor. The same sealer can be used if after some time cracks are already developing on it. Epoxy is one of the best products to use for this problem.

When you are already sure that you've got the sealing done, the next thing to do is to keep the polished floor clean all the time. Unlike most floor types, you are not required to put wax on concrete polished floor as often as the other floor styles require. However, there are floor polishes available that could help somehow in maintaining your concrete polished floor's condition. This helps in avoiding or risking slipping when wet situations.

When you keep your floor clean, you are also giving your floor that slip resistance character it should have. Contamination is actually of the major causes of slip resistance going low. Keeping the concrete polished floor dry is also one major concept to consider.

The regular application of floor polish helps in filling the surfaces roughness that provides that grip or friction required for that much desired slip resistance. However, if your floors finish has quite a low surface roughness, you should lessen the layers of polish on the concrete as too much of it could reduce the slip resistance quite significantly. Whats important here is the awareness as to what your concrete requires what suits its maintenance needs. - 16732
